Why You Should Upgrade To Butler Service on a Regent Seven Seas Cruise

by Beth Graham

My husband and I recently joined another couple on last-minute cruise to South America. I had only visited the continent once before on a trip to Patagonia, so I was excited to explore more countries. We would be sailing on the Regent Seven Seas Voyager, a luxurious cruise ship that redefines elegance and comfort. Once known as “The Most Luxurious Ship Ever Built,” the Splendor offers spacious suites, world-class dining, and exceptional amenities. This incredible voyage from Rio de Janeiro to Buenos Aires combines impeccable service with breathtaking views of South America’s Atlantic coastline.

Life Aboard the Regent Seven Seas Voyager

The Regent Seven Seas Voyager is designed for ultimate luxury. The ship features elegant interiors, sparkling chandeliers, and rich marble details, exuding sophistication at every turn. Guests can unwind in the infinity pool, relax in the lavish Serene Spa & Wellness center, or enjoy cocktails in one of the stylish lounges. The Observation Lounge provides panoramic views of the ocean, while the Constellation Theater hosts Broadway-caliber performances and live entertainment.

Fitness enthusiasts can take advantage of the state-of-the-art gym, yoga, and Pilates classes, while those looking for relaxation can spend their days lounging by the pool with attentive service bringing drinks and snacks to their chairs. The library offers a quiet retreat with books and board games, perfect for sea days.

Art lovers will appreciate the ship’s curated collection of fine art, and shoppers can explore high-end boutiques offering designer jewelry, fashion, and luxury goods. The onboard casino offers a touch of glamour and excitement for those feeling lucky. With a guest capacity of only 680, the intimate atmosphere ensures personalized service and ample space to relax and enjoy the journey.

Upgrade to Butler Service: It is TOTALLY Worth It!

We upgraded to a rear balcony cabin that included butler service and I’m not sure I can ever go back to a standard stateroom. For those seeking the ultimate indulgence, upgrading to a premium suite with butler service is highly recommended. The suites feature spacious accommodations with private balconies, marble bathrooms with dual sinks, walk-in closets, and plush bedding for a serene retreat at sea. Some suites also include a personal jacuzzi on the balcony for added luxury.

The butler service ensures every need is anticipated, from unpacking luggage to arranging shore excursions and serving in-suite dining. In our case, our butler, at our request, immediately brought all the fixins’ for an Old Fashioned bar down to the simple syrup and cherries. When you upgrade to these suites, you also get priority reservations at specialty restaurants and exclusive onboard experiences. Butler-serviced suites come stocked with personalized minibars, daily canapés (perfect for happy hours), and luxurious bath amenities.

Dining aboard the Voyager is a culinary journey in itself. With several gourmet restaurants and 24-hour room service, there’s something to satisfy every craving, and every palate. Guests can savor classic French dishes at Chartreuse, indulge in perfectly grilled steaks and seafood at Prime 7, or enjoy global flavors and regional specialties at Compass Rose, the ship’s elegant main dining room. For a more casual experience, La Veranda offers buffet-style breakfasts and lunches with al fresco seating, while Sette Mari at La Veranda transforms into an intimate Italian trattoria in the evening. The Pool Grill provides a relaxed setting for burgers, salads, and snacks throughout the day. With open-seating dining, no reservations are required, allowing guests to dine whenever and wherever they please, all while enjoying complimentary fine wines and premium spirits. Best Time to Take This Cruise

The best time to embark on this cruise is during the Southern Hemisphere’s summer months, from December to March. These months offer warm temperatures and sunny skies, perfect for exploring the coastal destinations and enjoying outdoor activities. Traveling during this period also means experiencing vibrant festivals, cultural events, and bustling local markets. Be sure to pack lightweight clothing, sunscreen, and comfortable walking shoes for excursions.

Exploring Rio de Janeiro and Where to Stay

Our cruise started in Rio de Janeiro so we arrived a few days early to explore this popular destination. (We did not have great weather so my photos are not so enticing.) It offers a mix of natural beauty, vibrant culture, and iconic landmarks. Visitors can take a cable car ride to Sugarloaf Mountain for panoramic views, visit the towering Christ the Redeemer statue, and unwind on Copacabana Beach or Ipanema Beach. The city’s bustling nightlife and samba rhythms are best experienced in the Lapa district. For accommodations, the Belmond Copacabana Palace provides timeless luxury, while the Hotel Fasano Rio de Janeiro offers sleek, modern elegance with oceanfront views.

Discovering Buenos Aires and Where to Stay

Our cruise ended in Buenos Aires and I’m so glad we decided to spend a few extra days there. I was surprised how much I loved the city and I can’t wait to go back and spend more time. It is a cultural powerhouse filled with art, history, and charm. Visit the famous San Telmo market for some authentic Argentinean cuisine and then wander through the elegant Recoleta neighborhood, known for its famous cemetery and European-inspired architecture. The Palermo district offers boutique shops and trendy cafes. For accommodations, Alvear Palace Hotel delivers old-world luxury, while Lemon Apartments offers modern, budget-friendly stays in prime locations near the city’s key attractions.
