One thing I love about living in Florida is the history. Ahem … St Augustine, my hometown, is America’s Oldest City. Long before European settlers arrived, the Timucua people called Amelia Island home. Getting to Amelia Island
The closest major airport to Amelia Island is Jacksonville International Airport (JAX), located approximately 30 minutes away by car. JAX offers numerous domestic and international flights, making it the most convenient option for air travelers. Once you arrive, rental cars, shuttle services, and ride-share options like Uber and Lyft are readily available to take you to Amelia Island
For those driving, Amelia Island is easily accessible via Interstate 95. From I-95, take Exit 373 for Fernandina Beach/Callahan and follow A1A east toward Amelia Island. The scenic drive will take you past marshlands, historic sites, and beautiful coastal views before you arrive on the island. If you’re coming from Jacksonville, the drive takes roughly 45 minutes.
For a unique approach, travelers coming from the south can take the St. Johns River Ferry from Mayport, offering a scenic and relaxing way to begin their journey. Once across, continue driving along A1A, which leads directly to Amelia Island.
Best Time to Visit Amelia Island
