Jordan photo dump...and a geography lesson... Eig Jordan photo dump...and a geography lesson...

Eight years ago, I was invited to visit Jordan as a travel writer and I almost declined it for fear of the unknown. But a friend encouraged me to go saying, "It is a life-changing trip." And it was. For 8 years, I've wanted to take people back to see how amazing the country is. I've visited 45ish countries and Jordan is still in my top 3!

So I was a little sad to arrive and hear how tourism (Jordan's only major industry) is down because of the war between Israel and Palestine, simply because of its proximity to Israel. It reminded me of the Mark Twain quote, “God created war so that Americans would learn geography.” But apparently we're not learning or listening because Jordan is not nearly as close geographically or politically to dissuade travelers from visiting.

Jordan’s King is deeply respected on the world stage for his commitment to stability and diplomacy, and the country remains one of the safest and most hospitable in the Middle East. The Jordanian people are some of the kindest and most generous I’ve ever met — always ready to share a smile, a story, or a cup of tea.

We talked with so many locals, including a gracious invitation from our friend and guide Ramzi of Jordan Allure Tours to dine with his extended family at their home and they are incredibly kind. In Egypt, when meeting a local, the response was (hand out) "Tip!" In Jordan, it was (hand on heart) "Welcome to Jordan."

From the ancient wonders of Petra to the vast beauty of Wadi Rum, the healing waters of the Dead Sea to the Roman ruins of Jerash to my new favorite view of all time, looking out over the West Bank and Jordan Valley from Mt Nebo where Moses stood — Jordan is full of unforgettable history, culture, and natural beauty. Don’t let fear keep you from experiencing it.
